Book Searching
There are a few ways you can search for a book using library services;
- Search any printed materials in Library.
- Search a book via e-library (OPAC) and jot down the call number.
- Search a book in Library by searching the call number after finding it in OPAC.
What is OPAC?
- OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) is an online database of materials held by a library or group of libraries.
- A library catalog is used to locate books and other material available at a Raffles University Library.
What Does a Call Numbers Mean?
A call number represents an item’s subject matter and indicates the location on the shelf where the item can be found. A call number is located at the bottom of the book on the spine. The most common call number type is Library of Congress (LC). They are read line by line, top to bottom: Library of Congress call numbers have several parts that represent different things.
E.g:
Ross, S. A., Westerfield, R., & Jordan, B. D. (2013). Fundamentals of corporate finance. New York, NY:McGraw-Hill/Irwin.
- HG —— Item’s Subject (Finance)
- 4026 —— Subject Code (Corporate Finance)
- .R677 —— First Author’s Last Name (Ross)
- 2013 —– Publication Date
