A call number represents an item’s subject matter and indicates the location on the shelf where the item can be found. A call number is located at the bottom of the book on the spine. The most common call number type is Library of Congress (LC). They are read line by line, top to bottom: Library of Congress call numbers have several parts that represent different things.
